What a liberation to realize that the "voice in my head” is not who I am. Who am I then? The one who sees that.

Hi, I'm Britney

Counselling and psychotherapy that is grounded in authenticity, compassion, and curiosity. I work with you in mindful and creative ways to (re)discover presence, ease, and fulfilment in your life.

Because something different is possible!

My therapeutic approach

Like you, I don't have it all together, and I won't pretend to.

What I can do is be with and hold the space for all of you as you explore, feel, laugh, cry, unearth, grieve, plan, break down, rebuild, and move forward in whatever timeframe is needed to (re)discover LIVING your life, on your terms.

Through counselling or psychotherapy, we will co-create a unique, hopeful, and non-judgmental space to get curious about you, your experiences, and how you might like things to be different. We may dive into understanding thoughts, feeling emotions, experiencing sensations, examining relationships, or changing behaviours, habits and lifestyle. We may problem-solve current issues or time travel to memories and hurts from the past to cultivate peace in the present. How we do this will depend on the modalities and techniques that resonate and work best for you.

If you aren't quite sure the what or how of it, but know that something needs to change, that's a great place to start!

Above all, a genuine connection & trust between you and your therapist is what matters most.

More about my approach

My counselling and psychotherapy approach is holistic, somatically-oriented, and trauma-focused, influenced by 12+ years of experience working with the wounded and beautifully brave, including military families, individuals involved with the criminal justice system, and those with anxiety, depression, toxic stress, and chronic pain.

Unique to me is that I am also a therapeutic bodyworker (massage therapist) and long-time yoga student and teacher. With these perspectives, I have an in-depth appreciation and understanding of the interconnectedness between our mental and physical health. If it's appropriate and you express interest, I am happy to include breath work, movement, yoga postures, and mindfulness to help augment your therapeutic process.

Other influences include, but are not limited to:

  • somatic & embodiment practices
  • acceptance & commitment therapy
  • cognitive behavioural therapy
  • solution-focused brief therapy
  • physiology & neuroscience
  • polyvagal theory
  • attachment theories
  • personality theories
  • positive psychology
  • social justice perspectives

About Brit

Woman standing on a wooden dock next to a lake at sunset in a warrior II pose with arms outstretched, front knee bent, and back leg straight

I am a white woman of European settler heritage, and my pronouns are she/her. My perspectives are shaped by my family's blended structure, neurodiversity, and long history of military service with the Canadian Armed Forces. I have lived in both rural and urban communities across multiple provinces in Canada, travelled internationally, and have since put down roots with my husband and son in the 'Forest City' of London in Southwestern Ontario (Canada).

When not working, you'll find me enjoying mindful movement (yoga, spinning, and resistance training), out for walks in nature, lounging with a book or curled up sipping a warm tea, and spending quality one-on-one time with my family and close friends.

"I remember when I was a child growing up and my family was experiencing a lot of conflict, I felt very alone. I knew I didn’t want anyone else going through a hard time to feel alone either."

As a lifelong learner, I am committed to ongoing independent study, consultation, and professional training. My current area of focus is related to supporting clients with trauma. Please ask if you want to know more about specific training I’m currently completing.
I elected to hold an inactive licence with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario following the birth of my son. I will announce if/when I plan to resume my massage therapy practice.
I have been practicing yoga and mindfulness since 2010 and completed my teacher training with the Sacred Seed Yoga & Ayurveda School in 2017. I have practiced and learned from many wise teachers, locally and internationally. My practice is influenced by my teachers from the Sivananda, Hatha, Ashtanga, Iyengar, Vinyasa,  Forrest, Yin and Restorative traditions, as well as aspects of Buddhism.
Yoga and mindfulness practices have been invaluable in my journey to healing trauma, mental health, and chronic pain, which is what led me to share these practices with others. However, I acknowledge that cultural appropriation is intertwined with the presence and practice of yoga in the West. As such, I am committed to ongoing learning on how to minimize harm while honouring this spiritual practice and its heritage.
I started Balbodhi Wellness by first offering private mobile yoga and registered massage therapy from a trauma-informed lens in 2018.
The word ‘Balbodhi’ is inspired by the merging of balance and bodhi.
Balance. Moving towards calmness and equanimity; the result of being present to our inner and outer worlds, attending to our mind and being in our body, both of which are beneficial for our overall health and well-being.
Bodhi. It is said that it was beneath the sacred Bodhi tree that the Buddha first achieved awakening or enlightenment. Incorporating bodhi is my way of honouring this history and a symbol of presence, compassion, and wisdom.
